Fabio Savastano: A Commitment to Excellence in Orthodontics and Neuromuscular GnathologyDr. Fabio Savastano is a medical doctor specialized in orthodontics with extensive clinical and teaching experience in the neuromuscular field. He graduated with honors in Medicine from the University of Naples in 1987 and obtained his specialty degree in Orthodontics from the University of Padua in 1990. Since 1988, his primary interest has consistently been the application of neuromuscular principles to orthodontics. He developed an innovative diagnostic and therapeutic orthodontic protocol based on neuromuscular gnathology, defining "Neuromuscular Orthodontics" as a distinct ultra-specialized branch within orthodontics (São Paulo, Brazil, 1994).
His holistic approach emphasizes the importance of optimal muscle function and correct occlusal alignment to improve masticatory function, reduce tension, and alleviate Craniocervical-Mandibular Disorders (CMD) and orofacial pain. Dr. Savastano has continuously broadened his expertise through ongoing training and extensive international teaching, delivering courses and lectures in Brazil, Spain, India, Bahrain, UAE, Canada, Czech Republic, and Italy, educating over 1000 doctors since 1989.
Dr. Savastano possesses comprehensive clinical experience in managing complex temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders and maxillofacial surgery, accrued over 15 years as a hospital consultant.
His commitment to the scientific community led him in 2006 to establish and preside over ICNOG (International College of Neuromuscular Orthodontics and Gnathology), aimed at continually refining diagnostic and therapeutic procedures alongside Dr. Piero Silvestrini Ph.D. from Genoa (Globaocclusion.com). More recently, he was appointed President of ICCMO Italy (International College of Cranio-Mandibular Orthopedics – Italian Section), reaffirming his dedication to promoting research and disseminating advanced gnathological knowledge.
Dr. Savastano is the author of ten scientific publications and the volume Neuromuscular Orthodontics, a clinical guide, published by Springer in 2023. He currently serves as Director and Adjunct Professor of the Master’s Degree Programs in Neuromuscular Orthodontics and Neuromuscular and Aesthetic Dentistry at Jaume I University, Castellon, Spain.
In his clinical practice, he offers orthodontic treatments aimed at restoring complete functional harmony, extending beyond aesthetic enhancement of the smile.
